About this dataset
The dataset maps the pipeline described in the hub's Education and Militarisation theme: from curriculum programmes taught to every pupil, through military-patriotic clubs, cadet classes and field camps inside the territories, to the federal structures (Yunarmiya, the Movement of the First, DOSAAF, the Voin centres) that exist to prepare children for service in the Russian armed forces. The unit of analysis is the organisation, programme, camp or structure, recorded against a uniform schema.
Five object types
- Youth movements and federal structures: Yunarmiya, the Movement of the First, DOSAAF, Rosmolodyozh, the Voin and Avangard networks and the regional movements that feed them.
- Clubs, cadet and Cossack corps, and field camps operating inside the territories: the largest group, including a historical section on Donbas in 2014 to 2019.
- Curriculum programmes: Orlyata Rossii, Luhansk Character, OBZR, Zarnitsa 2.0, Conversations about What Matters and others. These have no membership or premises of their own and cannot be mapped the way Yunarmiya can.
- Veterans' organisations: included only where there is an evidenced, recurring presence; one-off school visits are not given separate entries.
- Camps and centres that move children out of their territory of origin: Artek, Smena, Gudermes, Snegiri, Sirius and the Kherson-to-Yevpatoria transfers. These carry an Accountability and Legal cross-tag so that the deportation dimension is not buried in a file built to surface militarisation.
Confidence ratings and known gaps
Each entry is rated Confirmed (independent, open source), Likely (single source or the hub's own monitoring) or Needs verification (evidence incomplete or conflicting). Low-confidence entries are retained and flagged rather than dropped. Fifteen entries rest wholly or partly on Centre for the Study of Occupation monitoring held in the hub's private repository. Participant numbers, funding sources and precise addresses are missing for a significant share of entries and are recorded as "Not stated" or "Not established" rather than estimated. The veterans' sector is systematically under-counted relative to the real frequency of one-off school visits, and the 2014 to 2019 section on Donbas relies substantially on a single academic source.
Named individuals
Leaders and curators are named only where the cited public source names them: sanctions designations, court decisions, notices of suspicion or published investigations. A claim resting on a single unofficial source is marked as such. Individuals identified during the mapping were routed to the Occupation Officials Database rather than expanded here.
